Remember to acknowledge the use of national HPC

NB! It is now specified in the HPC resource allocation number whether HPC Type1-5 has been used.

Publication of results

DeiC provides access to national HPC facilities for researchers affiliated with the 8 Danish universities. Therefore, if you as a researcher publish results from calculations performed on a Type 1-5 HPC facility, it is important that you acknowledge and/or quote this in your publications, book chapters, posters and the like.

In general, it applies to many HPC facilities (e.g. also for a PRACE grant) that it is required to mention the use of infrastructure in a note in the scientific article that may subsequently be published. This is done, for example under "Acknowledgments" or "Funding". It will now also be a mandatory requirement if you make use of the national HPC resources in Denmark.

DeiC uses the information to get an overview of the total number of publications in which national HPC resources have been used. All in order to be able to document the scientific output of the national investment in HPC. The list of publications that have used the national resources can be found here.

Instructions for the users

Use of your number from the HPC resource allocation (DeiC-XX-Y NUMBER):

Below is shown how to refer to the use of the national HPC facilities. However, the final text and design can be changed as desired. This is just an example. However, it is mandatory to enter a DeiC-XX-Y-NUMBER in your publication if you have used national HPC.

1. You should have been provided with a number from your local Front Office at your University.
2. The number must be inserted when publishing results depending on where it fits in relation to the template that is used and any other requirements from where the article/report/etc. is being published.

Here is referenced the use of national HPC Type 1, allocated by Front Office locally (L1) to a researcher from KU (More examples, see green box and g.a. refers to grant agreement):

If you have not been assigned an HPC resource number:

1. Contact your local Front Office
2. Provide your username if you have already been assigned compute time on an HPC system.

Test access from HPC Sandbox resources:

1. If you have been assigned calculating time from the HPC Sandbox via eske.christiansen@deic.dk, then you can send an email to the same address if you were not provided with a DeiC-XX-S-NUMBER.

Instructions to the responsible HPC allocator

Front Office

Each university has been allocated a pool of HPC resources. It is this pool that time is allocated from when creating a new project to the users. The user must have a DeiC-XX-Y-NUMBER assigned (HPC reference number), that can be referred to when publishing results. One number is assigned per project.

Each university manages the local allocations and keeps track of this, which means that DeiC does not have any kind of coordination of the numbers. The numbering is used as a reference to allocated HPC resources (See gray box). This "funding" number is assigned by the local Front Office (See the first three examples in the green box).

DeiC

An additional pool of HPC resources is administered by DeiC, and is used as a "Sandbox" for applications from short-term projects, tests, student projects and the like. Read more about it here.

Projects from this resource pool are named as shown at the bottom of the examples, and DeiC states the number when the Sandbox grant has been approved.
