ServiceInfo

ServiceInfo notifies users about outages and other service information.

ServiceInfo is a solution where system administrators at institutions can send messages about operational incidents and other service-related information to their users.

The messages are sent to users who have chosen to subscribe to specific message channels, and can be received as e-mail, SMS and calendar messages, with display in the user's calendar.

The messages are displayed on serviceinfo.dk, and institutions can also choose to use ServiceInfo's API, and thus display the messages in their own format on their website.

ServiceInfo includes
  • Amberscript
  • Basisnet
  • DeiC Dataverse
  • DeiC DMP
  • Eduroam
  • FileSender
  • Greenland
  • Kaltura
  • Nameservice (DNS)
  • Panopto

Frequently asked questions
When to use ServiceInfo?

ServiceInfo is typically used by system administrators to send status messages for a service. A message channel is created for the service where the system administrator can send information to users. The information can include:

  • Planned operations: For example, notification of expected time and duration of downtime, or reduced functionality related to planned service.
  • Out of Order: Emergency notification of a service event on the affected service.
  • Solved Problems: Notification of a previous service incident.
  • General information: E.g. calls for best use of the service, new functionality, or invitation to webinars and events, with associated calendar invitation that can be added to the calendar at the appropriate time.
Who can use ServiceInfo?

All users of DeiC's services can use ServiceInfo. The example to the right shows a list of available services from DeiC where an end user has configured their subscription.

Institutions connected to the Research Network can have their very own instance, i.e. their own list of message channels and their own administrator access to ServiceInfo. Here, several "editors" can have access to send messages for the institution's channels, and several local administrators can have access to handle requests and rights etc. for the institution's users.

Before an "editor" can create, send and manage messages, the editor sends a request to ServiceInfo's local administrators, who can then process the request in ServiceInfo's administration user interface.

If the institution uses ServiceInfo's API, you can display messages in your own format on your website. It also allows you to provide access to the messages via your own web pages.

What does it take to use ServiceInfo?

It's easy to use ServiceInfo. All you need is an internet connection and that your institution uses Where Are You From, WAYF (see www.wayf.dk). If you are unable to use WAYF, you can create a so-called DeiC-login, with a regular username and password.

What about legal, security and personal data?

Access control: Access is via the user's username and password from the home organization (via WAYF), or via the DeiC login - a self-created account that requires authentication by the local administrator. This applies to both end users and administrators, with the latter having to create a DeiC login that can be used in the event of a breakdown in local systems.

Data storage: ServiceInfo and associated data are hosted in DeiC's data center at DTU in Lyngby, and with redundancy and failover in a data center in Skanderborg.

Logging: Access to the service is logged via WAYF (read more at www.wayf.dk), and by ServiceInfo. The access log is continuously deleted. Sent messages are stored in the solution itself and are subsequently available to editors of the channel and local administrators of the ServiceInfo instance. Sent messages are stored locally with the users in the user's email solution and SMS solution.

Encryption: Communication between the user and the service is via encrypted connection (https).

Backup: Regular backup of the solution and data is performed.

Data processing agreement: No data processing agreement is offered for the service as the service does not process personal data for users. A data processing agreement is offered for WAYF.

Terms and Conditions: The service is covered by Forskningsnettet Service Level Agreement.

What does it cost to use ServiceInfo?

The use of ServiceInfo is free for users and administrators if the institution is connected to Forskningsnettet or WAYF. This also applies if you want to use your own instance of ServiceInfo as an operational status service for your own institution.
