The field of quantum technology is currently undergoing a remarkable and historically rapid development worldwide, as well as in Denmark.

Various types of quantum computers are being invented, and nearly limitless opportunities for research, technological development, and commercialization are emerging across all sectors. With this vital development, it is clear that no country can develop the technology in isolation. International collaboration between related organizations is essential to keep pace with developments and to create shared opportunities for networking and the exchange of knowledge.

For these reasons, DeiC from Denmark and Mitacs from Canada have just signed a new letter of intent on knowledge sharing and collaboration in the field of quantum technology. A key characteristic of both organizations is that they operate from a national foundation without their own commercial, sector-specific, or geographic interests. In other words, DeiC and Mitacs share both a common policy foundation and objectives aimed at objectively promoting opportunities for the development of research collaboration leading to new quantum technologies.

Purpose of the Letter of Intent

The letter of intent recognizes the crucial role that science, technology, and innovation play in promoting growth and prosperity in both Denmark and Canada, particularly within the quantum technology sector. It acknowledges that international collaboration is a key driver in achieving these shared goals by exploring opportunities for cooperation in research and workforce education in alignment with both countries’ national strategies.

The Concrete Collaboration

DeiC and Mitacs agree to use each other as national quantum hubs in the field of quantum infrastructure and to collaborate on enhancing mobility for students and researchers between the two countries through their respective funding programs, processes, and close integrated cooperation with universities. In support of Denmark’s and Canada’s efforts to strengthen global innovation networks, both parties commit to promoting and encouraging future collaborations involving Canadian and Danish universities.
