Abstract:
The issues surrounding big data are complex and interwoven. The research and education networking community has begun to address a number of these issues, but much remains to be done. What can we do to best promote 'friction-free science in a programmable world'?

About:
Michael Sullivan is Associate Director of Health Sciences at Internet2 where he is based in the Office of the CTO. He began his career in medical informatics in 1986 while working as an emergency physician. In 2004 he began to focus on health information exchange and the formation of regional health networks. In 2009 he joined Internet2 where he focuses on the infrastructure requirements of biomedical researchers engaged in data-intensive science. The proliferation of next generation sequencers and new imaging technologies has thrust the life sciences into the vanguard of the "Big Data" revolution, creating a new set of challenges for researchers. Mike works with bioinformaticians, researchers, and infrastructure providers to address those challenges.
