Policies for national HPC facilities via DeiC

This guide is a short description of different policies for the various national HPC facilities via DeiC.

LUMI

Project duration

Project duration is maximum 12 months.

Projects cannot be extended – neither time nor resources can be added.

The reason is better control of the usage of the system and better user experience as the queue times will be kept shorter.

Resource Cutter Policy (RCP) – October 1, 2025

To support balanced LUMI resource usage throughout the project’s lifetime a Resource Cutter Policy (RCP) has been introduced for projects that begin on or after October 1, 2025.

Six months from project start, up to 40% of the allocated resources are cut if not used. Please see the illustration for various scenarios.

The cut resources are permanently removed; they do not return to the country's annual allocation pool.
Principal Investigators (PI), project members, and resource allocators (RA) will receive advance notice when usage falls below thresholds, and the resource cutter becomes applicable.

There are special rules for people of some nationalities

If all the project members are affiliated to a Danish research institute, SMV or public administration there are no special rules. Please contact DeiC if this does not apply.
