KOR is offering a free two-day course on the secure use of register data on 1 May and 8 May 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM both days. The course will be conducted in English.

The purpose of the course is to provide researchers, analysts, data managers, and students with the knowledge and skills required to work with register data in a secure, well-considered, and ethically sound manner. The course also covers compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and local regulations.

Overall learning objectives

Participants will:

  • Gain knowledge of data confidentiality policies in the Research Service Units at Statistics Denmark (DST) and the Danish Health Data Agency (SDS)
  • Understand the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • Learn how to access register data in practice
  • Be able to assess whether files from research machines can be “sent home” in accordance with the rules
  • Understand key ethical considerations when working with register data

Target group

The course is aimed at researchers, analysts, and students interested in empirical research and analysis who wish to expand their work using register data. No prior experience with register data or access to research machines is required.

The course will be hosted by Gunhild Tidemann Okholm and Maria Holst Algren from the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH), University of Southern Denmark.
