Participants will:

  • Gain knowledge of data confidentiality policies in the Research Service Units at Statistics Denmark (DST) and the Danish Health Data Agency (SDS)
  • Understand the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • Learn how to access register data in practice
  • Be able to assess whether files from research machines can be “sent home” in accordance with the rules
  • Understand key ethical considerations when working with register data

Day 1: Tuesday the 2nd of February 2027, 10AM-3PM

The first day focuses on an introduction to Danish register data, including available data providers such as Statistics Denmark (DST), the Danish Health Data Agency (SDS), STIL, and the National Archives. The day also introduces different types of register data, including individual-level data, company data, labour market data, and health data, as well as opportunities and limitations when working with these data sources. The day further covers the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Danish Data Protection Act, and ethical considerations when working with register data. Practical exercises and group discussions are included.

Day 2: Tuesday the 9th of February 2027, 10AM-3PM

The second day focuses on practical aspects of working with register data, including how to apply for access to data through Statistics Denmark (DST) and the Danish Health Data Agency (SDS), the need-to-know principle, and security procedures when working with sensitive data. The day also covers working on research machines and rules for exporting analysis results. Practical exercises and group discussions are included.
